Childcare in Dublin Mid-West: Planning for the Future

As Chairperson of the Citywest Community Council, I recently appealed a decision for a Change of Use from Creche / Community Space in a development in Citywest. The Developer was looking to change the use to 2 additional apartments.
Thank you to residents who donated to fund the appeal to An Bord Pleanala. I’m delighted to report that An Bord Pleanala has refused permission on this occasion. This should lead to the construction of a creche facility at this development in due course.
Dublin Mid-West is expanding rapidly. I am meeting with parents all across the constituency, who are telling me their difficulties in sourcing childcare. We can see that there is an urgent need for more creche and childcare facilities in our area. Therefore, we need to ensure that there is a proper planning system in place. One that will guarantee community amenities and childcare facilities are built in tandem with the residential developments.

If elected as your local TD, I will put forward plans to change the planning process. I would like to see enforcement of planning in phases, with community and creche facilities built in the early phase of all developments.
